If you add a Follower box (under layout, I think, on Blogger), you will soon have lots of connections. There are some FABULOUS upper grade bloggers with some terrific "Start the Year" activities.
Looks like you have already started a list of great ideas/strategies.

Click on “Design” (mine is in the upper right hand corner)
Click on “Layout”
Click on “Add a Gadget” (in a column is probably best—and you can move it within the column later)
Scroll down the options in Blogger/Add a Gadget
Select Followers...
